Purpose:
To provide additional training to members which have shown a competence in Phase
1 training. This phase of training will cover a basic understanding of fire
fighting apparatus, equipment, an anatomy of a fire call (fire detection, alarm
& response) and water supply and streams.
Scope:
Every Phase 1 member of the Fire Explorer youth program
will be provided with information in the classroom setting and given hands on
training in the areas mentioned in the purpose. The Fire Explorer must successfully
complete the phase by passing any and all exams by 70% and showing competence
in any and all areas covered.
Preparation:
Each module will present classroom instruction, an exam, a hands-on training
and a competency evaluation.
Agenda:
Module 1: Equipment - Basic understanding of Fire Apparatus, Hoses, Nozzles,
Ladders, Tools, Gear (PPE) and their uses.
Module 2: Fire Detection, Alarm and Response - Anatomy of a fire call. What
happens when a fire incident occurs?
Module 3: Water Supply and Fire Streams - Principles of various water systems,
Hydrants, Pressure, Means of moving and receiving water.
Completion:
At the completion of all Phase 2 Modules, the Fire Explorer will be required to participate
in an oral interview with an advisor at which time a review of all tests, exams
and a determination of competency will be made.
A Certificate of Completion will be issued the Fire Explorer when the advisor deems
that person competent to continue to Phase 3.
