Nothing says "summer" like a tasty Bar-B-Q with family and friends. Here are some tips to help keep your grilling safe.

~Never leave a grill unattended once it has been lit.

~Avoid using gasoline or other unstable flammable liquids to light the charcoal.

~Follow manufacturer's directions.

~Open all vents before and during cooking.

~Keep children 3 feet away from the hot grill

Trenton Fire Explorers - Phase 1

Purpose:
To provide additional training to members which have shown a competence in Phase 2 training. This phase of training will cover basic fire ground operations, certification in first aid & cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and principles in leadership.

Scope:
Every Phase 2 member of the Fire Explorer youth program will be provided with information in the classroom setting and given hands on training in the areas mentioned in the purpose. The Fire Explorer must successfully complete the phase by passing any and all exams by 70% and showing competence in any and all areas covered.

Preparation:
Each module will present classroom instruction, an exam, a hands-on training and a competency evaluation.

Agenda:
Module 1: Initial Fire Ground Operations - Communications, Accountability, Search and rescue, ventilation, and Fire Control.

Module 2: First Aid and CPR (American Heart Assoc.) - Become certified in first aid and CPR.

Module 3: Principles in Leadership - What it takes to become an officer. How to lead and understand the relationship between an officer and subordinates.

Completion:
At the completion of all Phase 3 Modules, the Fire Explorer will be required to participate in an oral interview with an advisor at which time a review of all tests, exams and a determination of competency will be made.
A Certificate of Completion will be issued the Fire Explorer when the advisor deems that person competent to be considered for the rank of an officer within the program.
